Windy Days
Green Valley
I love this time of year when the air is still cool and the
sun is shining. Sure, pollen is in the air but after I take my allergy pill, I'm
ready to appreciate the beautiful flowers and I'm ready to go fly a kite!
I never flew too many
kites when I was a kid but when I took a 3D design class in college I made my own kite. I had a professor who
loved the engineering science behind kite flying. He made us all decorate a
kite and then try to fly it on a windy day just like today. Mine flew! I
airbrushed a painting on the front of a lightweight canvas that I found.
At first, I was afraid it was too heavy to get off the ground but with enough wind and enough running on my part, it flew. My new teacher walked over to where I was standing with the string in my hand and whispered "You get an 'A' on this project." I decided right then that I liked this new teacher and this new class.

It was a great idea to start a class like this with an
interactive project that required each student to express, then test their
skills in the sky. Ever since that one experience, I have loved windy days because they always remind me of flying my own hand-made kite. Now go fly your own
kite!
