Marie Curie

I’m not a scientist but I do admire many who work in the science industry because of their passion and quest for more knowledge. The ability to ignore outside distractions and focus entirely on your own self-driven mission is what I believe this woman, Marie Curie, had.

After reading one of her many biographies, I drew some conclusions about the personality of Marie. She had to handle a lot of discrimination in her time but her focus remained on her work. The exclusion and discrimination she endured almost ended her career but her quest for new discoveries and inventions remained her top priority. I believe this is one of the traits that attracted her husband, Pierre to her. I also admire the way Pierre stuck up for Marie. There were many feminist men at this time that did speak up for women when it was not proper to do so. Although Pierre defended his wife's achievements...

that didn’t mean our society would listen.

In the 1960's when I was in grade school, I remember reading in a textbook that "the Curie’s discovered Radium.” Many times Pierre was given all the credit or most of the credit for this discovery. It is also on record that he consistently corrected people when they didn’t credit his wife.

With the support of her husband and her  obsessive quest for new knowledge and understanding, this couple made history together. We need to support one another even when it’s not to our advantage. Telling the truth might not make you popular but seeking the truth can help you overcome all kinds of obstacles.

By staying focused on the truth, we all can evolve.
